Great Camping Spots are everywhere in South-East Queensland — and it’s no secret we love a bit of camping and adventure. So, we thought we’d share some of our favourite places to pitch a tent or park the van around SE QLD — some popular, and some hidden gems you might not have heard of.

1 – Mt. Barney Lodge Country Retreat

The site is based next to Mount Barney National Park, which is accessible from the Lodge. One of the great camping spots in the region, the retreat offers amazing mountain views and swimming in the creek, along with some wonderful facilities. There are also a number of exciting activities on offer, such as rock climbing, abseiling, astronomy, bush walking and swimming.

2 – Bigriggen Park

This 100-acre park is based within the foothills of Mount Barney and Mount Maroon. Known as one of the great camping spots in South-East Queensland, it is bordered by a number of creeks and rivers which provide activities such as fishing, swimming and watersports. Around the park there are some stunning tracks for hiking and bike riding.

3 – Thunderbird Park Caravan & Camping

Thunderbird Park is an amazing place to visit with kids and is considered one of the great camping spots in South-East Queensland. There are a huge number of facilities and activities provided within the scenic site, such as horse riding, golf, volleyball, swimming, and rainforest rock pools, amongst many others!

4 – Flanagan Reserve Bush Camping

Flanagan Reserve is a peaceful spot set within a natural bush setting and is one of the great camping spots in South-East Queensland. The Logan River winds its way through the reserve — perfect for fishing and swimming! There are some great views here, and facilities include showers, toilets, and picnic tables.

5 – Neurum Creek Bush Retreat

This site borders Mount Mee State Forest. There are nearby towns to provide anything you might need, while the privately owned site allows for activities such as canoeing, swimming, biking and trail walking. The hosts live at the retreat and host regular events for their guests.

6 – Sandy Creek Camping Grounds 

Sandy Creek is a family-run site with almost 500 acres of natural landscape. As one of the great camping spots for a peaceful getaway, this smaller site requires pre-booking and is perfect for those who want to enjoy the tranquillity. A great place for some back-to-nature, old-fashioned camping!

7 – Goomburra Valley Camping Ground

Both camping and bunkhouses are available here. One of the great camping spots for families, this site offers all the amenities and is situated close to Darling Downs Zoo and Glengallen Homestead. The area is flat, grassed, and shaded, set in a peaceful bush setting.

8 – Murphy’s Creek Escape

This site offers remote camping within a huge bush setting. White Mountain National Park is close by to be explored, and there is also an inland beach, a creek and rock pools. Build your own campfire or have a barbecue, this is a peaceful, family friendly campsite with something for everyone.

9 – Gordon Country

This site was established over 40 years ago and is considered one of the great camping spots in the region. The owners welcome all sorts of groups and guests, hosting a number of events for their visitors — they even have their own onsite cook! The surrounding land offers forests, creeks, and mountain trails.

10 – Lake Moogerah Caravan Park

This site offers spots for both camping and caravanning, and also has one-bedroom cabins. As one of the great camping spots near Lake Moogerah, it features excellent onsite facilities. The lake itself offers sailing, fishing, and waterskiing. There are a number of nearby attractions to visit, and you can also hike or bike around the surrounding mountain area.
